India Targets 354.64 Million Tonnes of Food grain Production in 2025–26

The Indian government has targeted 354.64 million tonnes of food grain production in the 2025–26 year (June-July) with a vision to increase food security and improve the economy of agriculture. The target is more than 6.5% more than the realized 2023–2024 food grain production and roughly some 4% more than the 2024–2025 target of 341.55 million tonnes.

Key crop targets for 2025-26 production goals cover major crops:

Rice: 147.35 million tonnes, cultivated on kharif, rabi, and summer (zaid) crops.

Wheat: 117.40 million tonnes, primarily cultivated in the rabi crop.

Pulses: 26.4 million tonnes.

Oil seeds: 44.7 million tonnes.

These are assumed against the backdrop of a hoped-for conducive monsoon, crucial for the success of the kharif crops.

Current Production Status:

  • As of the 2024–25 crop year, India has achieved a food grain output of 330.92 million tonnes from the kharif and rabi seasons. Production figures for the summer (zaid) season are yet to be released. For context, the summer season contributed 16.5 million tonnes to the overall food grain output in 2023–24.

Government Programs:

  • The government is using a string of measures to reach these ambitious goals:
  • Better Crop Planning: The emphasis on better crop planning and encouraging the cultivation of paddy and maize.
  • Conservation of Water: 8,500 farm ponds are being constructed to conserve water.
  • Assistance to Farmers: Providing technical training, quality seeds, and fertilizer to farmers.
  • As part of promoting modern farming methods and enhanced productivity, the government also plans to launch a national awareness campaign.

Implications for the Agribusiness Sector: 2025–26 Food grain Output Target

India is poised to set a new record in food grain production in the upcoming crop year, thanks to favorable weather conditions and proactive government initiatives. Here’s what it means for the agribusiness ecosystem:

  • Food Security & Availability Sustained growth in food grain output ensures uninterrupted access to staple crops, reinforcing national food security.
  • Boost to Rural Demand Higher yields supported by digital tools like the Agsure Grain Analyzer empower farmers with instant quality checks, leading to fair pricing and better incomes – ultimately strengthening the rural economy.
  • Enhanced Export Potential With improved quality and traceability using platforms such as the Agreap App, India can elevate its position in the global foodgrain market, opening doors for agribusinesses to expand internationally.
  • Tech-Driven Agribusiness Growth The integration of smart farming solutions like the Agsure Grain Analyzer and Agreap App enables better decision-making, transparency, and profitability across the agri value chain.
